Privacy Policy
How BioDaily collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit biodaily.org.
BioDaily is a biology publication that covers current research in plain language. This policy describes what information we collect when you visit biodaily.org, how we handle it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to us at abelchen919@gmail.com.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
When you subscribe to updates, send a message through our contact form, or submit a question to BioBot, we may receive:
- Your name, if you choose to provide it
- Your email address
- The content of the message or question you send
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, BioDaily logs basic technical data when you visit. This may include browser type and version, device and operating system, an approximate location inferred from your IP address, the referring page or link, the date and time of your visit, and which pages you view. We use this information in aggregate to understand how the site is performing, and we do not try to identify individual readers from it.
Cookies and similar tools
We use cookies to remember preferences and to measure traffic through standard analytics. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not prevent you from reading articles, but some features may behave differently.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver newsletters and updates you have asked to receive
- Respond to messages sent through the contact form
- Answer questions submitted to BioBot
- Understand how readers use the site and improve the content and design
- Keep the site secure and functioning properly
We do not use your personal information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it to anyone.
3. BioBot and AI features
BioBot is an AI assistant that answers biology questions. When you submit a question, it is sent to a third-party language model provider to generate a response. We do not link the content of your questions to your name or email, and we do not use them to train models. Please do not share personal, medical, or otherwise sensitive information with BioBot. It is an educational tool, not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or scientific advice.
4. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us operate the site — for example, our website host, our email service, and our analytics provider — and only with what they need to do their job. We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect our readers.
5. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and administrative measures to keep your data safe, including HTTPS across the site and limited access to anything we store. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this responsibility seriously and keep the information we hold to a minimum.
6. Your rights and choices
You can:
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of every message
- Ask us what information we have about you
- Ask us to update or delete your information
- Ask us to stop processing your information
Send any of these requests to abelchen919@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
7. Third-party links
BioDaily links to outside sources such as journals, preprint servers, news outlets, and institutional pages. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Once you follow a link away from biodaily.org, you are subject to that site’s own policies.
8. Children’s privacy
BioDaily is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves or as the law requires. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page, and substantial changes will be announced to email subscribers.
10. Contact
Questions, requests, or concerns about this policy can be sent to abelchen919@gmail.com.
